Howe, 57, a resident of West Monroe, NY and formerly of Colton, will be held at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton NY on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 5 p.m. with Rev. Joseph Giroux presiding. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 5 p.m. Joe passed away on March 21, 2024 at his home. Joe is survived by his mother, Kathleen Howe Williams, West Monroe and Chittenango NY; a sister, Tonya and Michael Murdie, West Monroe, NY; nephew, Lance Murdie, West Monroe and his pre-deceased companion's children, Jake Bohn, Luke Bohn and Shaun Bohn as well as many cousins and friends. Joe was pre-deceased by his father, Blanchard "Junior" Howe in 2010; his long-time companion, Kristi Bohn in 2020; a cousin, Mary Ellen Glasgow; an uncle, Edward Glasgow Sr.; an aunt, Roveletta Huiatt; his grandparents, Blanchard and Jennie Howe and John and Meribeth Glasgow and his stepfather, Chester (Chet) Williams of Chittenango who passed away recently. Born in Potsdam, NY on July 18, 1966 to Blanchard W. "Junior" and Kathleen Glasgow Howe, Joe graduated from Colton-Pierrepont Central School, and later from the Welder Training and Testing Institute in Allentown, PA. Joe was an accomplished welder, working for several companies from New Jersey to Northern New York. He was occasionally sent on special assignments in various parts of the United States. Until his health failed in 2021, Joe was employed for nearly 20 years by Stebbins Engineering and Manufacturing in Watertown, NY. Joe loved the outdoors and in his spare time, he enjoyed spending time, hunting and fishing with his father when alive, his friends and the Bohn boys. In the last 2 1/2 years Joe lived closer to his family in a pleasant apartment in a quiet wooded area of West Monroe NY. He was able to watch ducks, deer and other wildlife that visited the two beautiful ponds behind his building. He was a frequent visitor to the back porch where the hunting stories abound between him and his landlord and friend, Dan Dusharm. He kept his culinary skills current by frequently exchanging casseroles or other dinner delights with Dan's mom, June, who lived in an apartment next to him and who once owned a restaurant and raised eight children. Joe gained 10 lbs. shortly after he moved in. Both June and Dan became an important part of his daily life. Joe also looked forward to his doggie visits from Isa, his mom's dog, and Whiz, Lance's dog. The dogs were just as happy to see him as he them. Joe fought a hard battle and had to lead a quiet, sedate life near the end. His family is grateful that he was able to live in an environment in which he could be comfortable, cared for and loved. Memorial donations in Joe's memory can be made to the Potsdam Humane Society (Animal Shelter), 17 Madrid Ave, Potsdam, NY 13676.
