Growing up, our family took vacations up at Lake Winnipesaukee every year since many of us lived in different cities. I remember being at an age where the other cousins there were either what seemed like much older or much younger than me so I sometimes felt like I didn’t have other kids to hang out with. My uncle Gibby picked up on this and took it upon himself to be my buddy and would spend hours making sandcastles/ animals with me on the beach. Although looking back now, I’m certain he did most of the work while I just moved sand around, he really made it seem like we created something special together. I especially remember the giant sea turtle we made. Recently at my wedding in June, Uncle Gibby told my now husband and I to “keep making sandcastles to the sky”. I am now an aunt myself now and I truly hope that I am able to make some memories together with my nephew as impactful as the ones I have with my Uncle Gibby.
Uncle Gibby, I hope you are making sandcastles in heaven. <3
