NORWOOD – Funeral services for Leslie E. Haggett, 76, a resident of 17 Cottage Street, Norwood, will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood with Rev. Lee Sweeney presiding. Burial with military honors will be held in the spring in Calvary Cemetery, Norwood. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Friday, January 19th from 4-7 p.m. Mr. Haggett passed away Sunday evening, January 14, 2024 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Les is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elaine Phelix; two sons, Leslie and Tara Haggett, Berwyn, PA; Gregory Haggett, Norwood; his four daughters, Monique Ploof, Norwood; Michelle and Nathan LaComb, Fort Worth, TX; Melanie and Peter Barkley, Norfolk and Marijo Haggett, Norwood; his beloved eight grandchildren, Alex and Ashley, Kirstin, Isaac, Zachary, Emma, Leslie, Thomas and Noah; one great-granddaughter, Ivy and his seven siblings, Ruth and Terry McDougall, Massena; Alta Haggett, Seattle, WA; Robert C. and Judee Haggett, Norwood; Carl and Sheila Haggett, Norwood; Brian Haggett and Lisa Trimm, Norwood; MaryAnn and Ronald Tischler, Potsdam and Mark Haggett, Tampa, FL as well as many nieces and nephews. Les was pre-deceased by his parents, Bob and Olive Haggett.
Born in Potsdam, NY on June 22, 1947 to the late Robert E. and Olive G. Morgan Haggett, Les graduated from Norwood-Norfolk Central School, Class of 1966 and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966-1970. Upon his return home, Les pursued many endeavors leading him to a 24 year career as the Director of campus dining services at Clarkson University. He was the president of the Clarkson Booster Club, coached Little League Baseball and was a passionate NY Yankees and NY Rangers fan. Les had many passions that included music, gardening, canning tomatoes, pickling cucumbers, berry picking, woodworking and traveling out west with his wife. He loved nothing more than the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and deer hunter. He spent many hours hunting fowl with his dogs and spending time at his woodlot. Some of his most cherished memories were spending summers at Weller Mountain with his family, playing a good game of pitch at the farm, and sharing his passions with his grandchildren.
