Obituary of Roger C. Scovil

SOUTH COLTON – Graveside services for Roger Clinton Scovil, 84, a resident of 4408 St. Highway 56, South Colton, NY, will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 11 a.m. in the Stark Cemetery, South Colton with Pastor Stephen Smith of the Colton Community Church presiding Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton on Friday from 4-7 p.m. Roger passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at the Massena Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a brief stay. Roger was born on February 10, 1939, the son of the late Harry and Amber (Beckstead) Scovil. He graduated from Colton-Pierrepont Central School and on June 29, 1957 he married Leota Young at the Methodist Church in Colton, NY. He went on to work construction at the Seaway for the next five years until he was hired at General Motors in Massena, NY. Roger worked as a Die Cast Die maker for ten years until he got into the Tool and Die trades. He worked for General Motors in Massena for 26 years until he moved to Bedford, Indiana where he worked for four more years and then was able to retire and moved back home. Roger was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed the activities with his family and friends. He loved taking pontoon boat rides at The River Lot on Hannawa flow during the summertime and the outdoor activities at hunting camp were endless. He enjoyed hunting, riding his side-by-side and snowmobiling, working on his tractor and cutting wood. Roger also enjoyed watching NASCAR and western movies. He was a past member of the Colton Fire Department and a past member of the AMVETS Sons 262 of Colton. Roger is survived by his loving wife, Leota Young Scovil of 66 years; a son, Jeffrey (Denise) Scovil of Colton; his beloved three grandchildren, Jamie (Joshua) Johnson, Carrie Kraszewski and Justin Scovil and his beloved 7 great- grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Roger was pre-deceased by his parents, two sons, Jamie and Jeremy Scovil and his three brothers, Merton, Carson and Grayden Scovil and two infant sisters.
