NORFOLK – A Celebration of Life gathering for Harold P. Emlaw, 98, a resident of 29 Maple Street, Norfolk, will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 1-4 p.m. at the Norfolk American Legion. Graveside services with military honors will be in Bixby Cemetery, Norfolk, on Monday, November 27, 2023 at 2 p.m. Mr. Emlaw passed away Sunday afternoon, October 22, 2023 at his home with family at his side.
Harold is survived by three sons, Ricky and Kathy Emlaw, Poinciana, FL; Dale and Joanne Emlaw, Norfolk; Kevin and Melody Emlaw, Norfolk; his two daughters, Nancy and Steve Szafranski, Norfolk and Kathy and Mark Hasenauer, Norfolk, his beloved nine grandchildren , eighteen great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Harold was pre-deceased by his parents, his wife Frances, a son Darryl Emlaw, his granddaughter, Heather Emlaw Planty, a brother Leland "Lee" Emlaw and a sister, Betty Emlaw.
Born in Norfolk, NY on September 14, 1925 to the late Vernon and Marion Hanley Emlaw, Harold attended Norfolk High School and served in the U.S. Navy, serving during both WWII and the Korean Conflict. He married Frances Packard on August 24, 1946. Together, they raised their family and in the early 1960's, Harold along with his father, started Emlaw's Tire and Auto in Potsdam which is currently in its fourth generation of ownership. Harold was a communicant of the Norfolk United Methodist Church and was very active in the community as he belonged to the Norfolk Lion's Club, the Norfolk American Legion where he served in many capacities, a member of the What Cheer Lodge, Norwood and a member of the 32nd Degree Masonic Lodge, a past member of St. Lawrence County Citizens Patrol and the Beaver Pond Hunting Club and the Sampson Naval and Air Force Memorial Museum. Memorial Donations in Harold's memory can be made to the Norfolk American Legion or to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley and memories and condolences may be shared online at www.buckfuneralhome.com.
