MADRID – A Mass of Christian Burial for Linda M. Newtown, 77, a resident of 1952 St. Highway 345, Madrid, will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Church in Madrid with Rev. Garry Giroux presiding. Burial will be held in the Visitation Cemetery in Norfolk following the services. Linda passed away early Saturday morning, September 23, 2023 with family by her side at the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg.
Linda is survived by her husband of 44 years, John, Madrid; her two children, Terry (Tammy) Newtown, Massena and Sarah (Mark) McMartin, Parishville; her beloved four grandchildren, Kyle (Amanda) Newtown; Nicholas Newtown; Chase McMartin and Kinsley McMartin; seven great-grandchildren, as well as a brother-in-law Thomas Newtown, and several nieces and nephews. Linda was pre-deceased by her parents LeRoy and Lulu, a brother James Perry and two sisters, Patricia Davis and Georgi Newtown.
Born in Potsdam, NY on September 11, 1946 to the late LeRoy M. and Lulu M. Drew Perry, Linda graduated from St Lawrence Central School, Class of 1964. She worked as a secretary, starting her career at Clarkson University and retired from the Town of Madrid where she was the secretary to the Supervisor. She married John R. Newtown on August 11, 1979 at the Church of the Visitation in Norfolk with Rev. George Lemieux presiding. Linda was a devoted Christian, being a faithful and active member of St. John's Parish in Madrid where she served as the parish secretary. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, as well as past Director of Religious Education, and served as a Eucharistic Minister. Linda was also active in the community as she was not only the past President of New Beginnings in Madrid, but also volunteered as a past Girl Scout leader and served on the Madrid Library Board. The family would like to give special thanks to Michael (Jessica) Newtown and family for their love, help, and support. The family would also like to thank the
staff of the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, as well as Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley for the care they have provided Linda.
