I’ll always remember Darrel telling our baseball team that “you can beat anybody if you want to”. He was an assistant coach; we went on to destroy OFA that day, who at the time was the toughest of the. “B” Schools.
Always good for a smile or words of encouragement, I really cannot remember ever seeing him upset.

Lots of memories in school with Mr. McDonald. Foundest one was in grade school walking down to the arena and he always helped tighten my skates! Thoughts are with his family.

I am sorry to have learned of Darrel's passing. Through many years of officiating and coaching young adults in the North Country, I came to know Darrel as a caring, dedicated and generous individual. The many testimonials to him are examples of how much he was liked and respected. Our thoughts are with you.

My condolences to the family. I will always cherish my memories with Darrel. In grade school he stayed after school with me and helped me with improve my basketball skills and love for the game. All through my school years he was there either as a ref or at the scoreboard. He will be missed by many.

To the family of Darrel McDonald - I was unaware of Darrel's passing until 9:20 this evening when I finally sat down to read the newspaper. In fact I was not aware he had been ill. I want you to know that Darrel was one of the most sincere and genuine people I ever met. An absolute gentlemen and wonderful representative of officiating basketball. He truly loved the game and the kids who played. I truly feel blessed to have been able to call him my friend. I never heard Darrel speak negatively of anyone. The world is a better place because of people like him and I am a better person because I had the pleasure to call him my friend. I am so sorry for your loss, our loss. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. I hope some day we have the opportunity to meet. God Bless!

Donna, I am so sorry for your loss. He was a great man. A fond memory I have of Mr. McDonald is a field trip to Arab Mountain. He sat with me on the bus too and from the trip. He also sat with me and had lunch on the top of the Mountain. I remember writing him a special thank you note afterwards. Such an amazing caring man.
