Cheryl and Family,
I am very sorry for your loss. I never new Jon that well growing up, but I did know him as an honest and stand-up person which to me is the greatest assets a man can have. I did visit Norwood a few times this past year as I buried my Mom (95) in Norwood.
God Bless you and your family.

Dear Family.
Played softball against Jon in our youthful days and he was a gracious competitor. Not sure how long ago(40) but we started officiating track together and we bonded from the start. He was a dedicated, knowledgeable, and a great team official. Track is wonderful sport where the coaches, participants, and the officials communicate freely with each other. Jon was a great communicator. His soft style, gentlemen's smile, and knowledge of the sport made him a class act.
When I heard of Jon's passing it struct me in a way the Good Lord came an got him as he needed another servant for the church in the heaven. I am sorry I wasn't there to cry with all of you as I was away. When I put on my track uniform I will think of the good times with Jon. You see, in track, nobody gets mad at each other so it is a positive experience each meet. We stayed in hotels together at the state meet many times and we shared a laugh or two on those occasions. I remember his quote to other members: " Sam is the only guy who starts snoring before he goes to sleep". LOL. Thanks for sharing Jon with us for such a long time as he left us with "class".
Sincerely.

My deepest sympathies to the Hazen family. Jon was a great teacher, coach, and friend. He impacted so many of our lives in ways that can not even be measured. Some in dramatic ways, and some just by simply sharing his smile, wit, and humanity. I will never forget him and his larger than life smile. Please know that our thoughts are with family and friends today as you gather to celebrate the life of a truly great guy, Jon helped to make our school and corner of the world a better place.

We are so sorry to hear of Jon’s death. He was a good friend for many years. I have two regrets today. One, we cannot join you for the service to honor his exemplary life and two that we allowed a great friendship to fade over the years. For that , I am really sad and sorry. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

Jon was a teacher and coach to my two boys, Nick and AJ Daniels. He also went to school with my brother Terry Jay. Jon knew about his students and their feelings. He knew how to approach them with humor, concern, caring and yes sternness when needed. At the end of one school year my son brought home a paper that Jon had made up that allowed extra credit if they brought in "dumb blonde" jokes. I thought I would turn the tables and sent in "dumb men " jokes. He called and said my son got extra points and so did I. We laughed a lot over this and when ever I would see him,he would ask if I had any good jokes. My prayers go out to all his family and hope you find some comfort in knowing how many will miss him and how many students loved him. God bless.

My heartfelt condolence to the Family. I am so sorry for your loss. There are few experiences more difficult than losing a loved one in death. As you cherish the many memories of your dear loved one, Jon, please reflect on the time when sickness, death and mourning will be no more. (Revelations 21:3,4) This is what our loving God Jehovah has promised and Jesus himself guaranteed the hope of seeing our loved ones again by means of the resurrection. (John 5:28,29; Acts 24:15; Isaiah 26:19) May God’s word bring you comfort during this difficult time and in the days ahead as we await the fulfillment of his promises.

Mrs. Hazen and family members,
As a 1987 graduate of NNCS, I had the privilege of being taught and coached life lessons from Mr. Hazen.
He was my Social Studies teacher when I was a 7th grade junior high student and it was nice getting to know him outside of the classroom as he would also officiate my youth hockey games. As a 12 year old I didn't always agree with his calls, we would have "fun" conversations about those games soon after in class, where he would ask me if I could see his eyes on the back of his officials helmet :)
Coach Hazen was my HS varsity soccer coach and he helped guide our soccer teams to State Regional play in both seasons that I was on the team. It was well known throughout the NNCS community, the "cast of characters" we had on those successful teams which coach Hazen had to corral. Through his professionalism and sense of humor he helped mold our group into two Championship teams while at the same time demonstrating on how important it was to also be respectful within the community. His varsity soccer coaching tenure brought several NNCS boys soccer teams Class C championship seasons from 1985-1997.
During my youth, Mr. Hazen's mother (Petty) was also one of my Sunday school teachers and she always had the same smile and sense of humor he had. The apple did not fall far from the tree...great people!!
Along with my mother, Mr. Hazen was a big influence on why I persevered as an educator or even became a teacher in the first place. Their advice in my early teaching years helped mold me into the teacher/coach I have become...you will never be forgotten!!
Our deepest sympathies to the family of Coach Hazen.
