Obituary of Elizabeth A. "Betty" Stowe

SOUTH COLTON—Private graveside services for 88 year old Elizabeth A. "Betty" Stowe, a resident of the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena and formerly of 35 Stowe Lane, South Colton, will be held in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Colton. Betty passed away early Monday morning, November 12, 2018 at the St. Regis Nursing Home with her family at her side. Pursuant to Betty's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services. Betty is survived by her daughter, Shellie and Randy Moore, Colton; her three beloved grandchildren, Chris Rutledge, Massena; Michelle Rutledge, Massena and Jamie and Niki Rutledge, Colton; her four great-grandchildren, Sydney Rutledge Pontious, Skye Rutledge, Alayna Rutledge and Jaedyn Rutledge; three great-great grandchildren and a sister, Evelyn Comins, Massena. Betty was pre-deceased by her husband in 2005, her son Stephen Stowe in 1967 and a brother, Robert Ames. Born in Colton, NY on March 2, 1930 to the late Amaranth and Bertha Robert Ames, Betty graduated from high school and married Stephen Stowe on August 9, 1947, sharing 58 years of marriage, all of which they resided in South Colton. Betty worked at Marine Midland Bank for many years and later worked at MacFadden-Dier Insurance until her retirement. Betty enjoyed outdoor activities including camping and boating. She also loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and loved animals, where donations in her memory can be made to the Potsdam Animal Shelter.
