This saddens me to here of Mrs. Hickens passing. My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this difficult time. I had Mrs. Hickens as a 3rd grade teacher 44 years ago in Lousisville. She was my all time favorite teacher ever. She always made your day brighter. Kids looked forward to going to school. As years passed, she never forgot any of her students. May she rest in peace, she will never be forgotten by many that she brought so much joy to our lives..

I offer my condolences to Duane and his family. I remember Mary Ann as a very bright, engaging, caring woman with an easy smile that would relax people in her presence. I had not been in Duane and Mary Ann's company for a number of years, but she was one of those folks who could create lasting memories simply by being herself.

I had Mrs. Hicken for 3rd grade 30 years ago. I always remember her talking about hover boards. I remember running into her at the arena numerous times when my brothers played hockey at N-N. She was a great teacher and will be sadly missed. I ran into her about ten years ago at the grocery store visiting family after not seeing her for 20 years. I went up to her and said , “ I bet you don’t know who I am” and she proved me wrong. My deepest condolences to her husband and children

Mary Anne's goodness ~ her gentle, sensitive, and thoughtful manner ~ and her many acts of love and kindness will be greatly missed by those who knew her and the many lives she touched. Her love of children, especially her own, and those placed in her care in the middle wing of Nightengale, were always at the forefront of her thoughts. She was a true teacher through and through, and I will fondly remember the love and care she had for all of her students, long after they left her tutelage in the third grade. For me, she provided many "God winks" as she liked to call them. I will miss this wise and lovely lady, and am most grateful to have known her. My deepest sympathy to her family for their loss at this sad time.

My deepest and heartfelt sympathy goes out to Mary Anne’s family. Mary Anne and I were childhood friends as our Moms and Dads had a close friendship. We actually lived together our last year at JCC., part of which was spent in her grandmother’s home. I have so many wonderful memories of fun times with Mary Anne! She was a very special person and will live on in the memories of many. Mary Anne and her family will be remembered in my prayers.

Dear Duane and Family: Words cannot describe my sorrow of you losing your wife/Mother/Grandmother. Mary Anne and I went to SLC and attended several college classes together. I enjoyed seeing her at Cheel. We kept in touch via fb. She was an absolutely wonderful person, sweet, caring and so proud of her family. She loved Parker with all her heart. Many blessings.

I am so sorry to hear of May Anne's death. We taught school together for many years. She was a wonderful teacher, and so tuned in to other people. I passed her classroom door every morning on the way to mine, and seeing her made a good start to the day! Whether we shared smiles, or a grumble, it always ended in a laugh! She talked about her children with such love and concern. Since we have been retired we have shared an occasional lunch; and talk turned to the grandchildren! She was a special lady and she will be missed.
