Obituary of James W. Reichert

CANTON—Funeral services for 87 year old James W. Reichert Jr., a resident of 125 Barnes Road, Canton and formerly of Pierrepont, will be held Friday, July 27, 2018 at 12 noon at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton with Pastor Tom Chappell presiding. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Mr. Reichert passed away Monday, July 23, 2018 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Jim is survived by his wife, Sigrid, Canton, NY; his children, Martha and Mark McGinn, St. Albans, VT; Susan and Bruce Graveley, Queensbury, NY; James and Laurie Reichert, Colton, NY; Carol Barclay, Homosassa, FL; his two step-children, Eric and Carolyn Ouderkirk, Oswego, IL; Peter and Nancy Ouderkirk, Adams, NY; his eight grandchildren, Peter McGinn, Tom McGinn, Anne and Jeremy Rose, Christopher Graveley, Sam Reichert, James Reichert and Jordyn Clothier; Jen Brown and Josh Lassial; his two great-grandchildren, James "Teddy" and Regan; a brother, Forest and Susie Reichert, Chagrin Falls, OH and a sister, Linda and Donald Mann, Mentor, OH as well as several step-grandchildren. Born in Evanston, IL on April 7, 1931 to the late James W. Reichert Sr. and Barbara Louise Pratt, Jim graduated from Proctor Academy in New Hampshire and later received a Bachelor's Degree from St. Lawrence University. He married Marjorie Blauvelt on November 26, 1956. Marjorie pre-deceased James on January 31, 1995 and he later married Sigrid Sampson Ouderkirk on July 27, 1996. He taught Construction Technology at BOCES for 20 years, retiring in 1986. Jim also was a private contractor, building and remodeling many homes for people in the North Country. He was a past member of the Norwood Kiwanis Club, the Canton Lions Club and Weller Mountain Fish and Game Club. Jim enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting, snowmobiling, playing shuffleboard and sailing and he served with the U.S. Army at the end of the Korean Conflict.
