Obituary of Marguerite C. O'Gorman

COLTON—A Mass of Christian Burial for 97 year old Marguerite C. O'Gorman, a resident of the Maplewood Campus in Canton and formerly of Colton, will be held Friday May 11, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Colton with Rev. Stephen Rocker presiding. Burial will follow the services at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Colton. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton on Thursday from 3-6 p.m. Mrs. O'Gorman passed away Sunday, May 06, 2018 at the Maplewood Campus in Canton. Marguerite is survived by her sister Esther Namian of Silver Spring, MD as well as many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband Robert and a sister Rogene Henrie. Born on Windy Hill in the Town of Pierrepont on November 21, 1920 to the late Maurice and Ella Quinn Corcoran, Marguerite attended the Macabe Country School through the 7th grade and graduated from the Colton High School in June of 1938. She later graduated from the Wallace Secretarial School of Ogdensburg in June of 1939 and became the first secretary for the Colton High School. After one year, she became employed with attorney Charles Murphy Sr. of Potsdam. In May of 1941, Marguerite commenced her employment with the Farmers Production Credit Association in Canton, NY. This organization started in 1934 and covered six counties: Franklin, Clinton, Essex, Jefferson, St. Lawrence and Lewis. It was operated out of the Clinton Office and Marguerite became responsible for setting up and overseeing the accounting until she retired in 1958. Over the years, through various mergers, it has become known as Country Living from Farm Credit East in Potsdam. It now encompasses six states. Marguerite was also responsible for the books of Judson Heights Dairy, Inc. for 40 years. In 1987 she started serving on the St. Lawrence County Health Board and remained until June of 2005. Also in 1991, Marguerite became a member of the Board of Directors of the Hill Top Manor Senior Citizens Housing in Colton, serving until 2013. Marguerite married Robert O'Gorman on April 28, 1943 at the St. Patrick's Church in Colton with Rev. Francis J. Conners officiating. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, playing cards, golfing and traveling. In her later years, Marguerite was thankful to her many family members and to Ann Demarais and Betty Smith, her caregivers.
