I am so sad that Sharon has passed away, as is my dog, Nicholas. "Nick" and I got to know Sharon as a resident of the Highland Home. We got to know Sharon from visiting my Mom, Irene Szarka, also a resident of the Highland, almost every day. After my Mom passed away last August, both Nick and I continued to visit the home three or four times a week, in order to keep up our contacts with Nick's "Fan Club" at the home.
Sharon was a great friend of Nick and he thought the same of her. Although she could not speak much to me or to Nick, he could see that she was a "people" who loved him. When I finally figured out to put a chair next to hers and to lift Nick up onto the chair so she could see and touch him, their relationship really took off! She brought joy and a smile to me as we listened to her coo to Nick and hand him treats from time to time. At times she would lean over and give him a kiss right on his nose! I told her that I did not like "Doggy Kisses" but that I could see that she, like my mother, not only did not mind them, but in fact returned his kisses! She would laugh out loud whenever I took one of her stuffed animals (after asking her!) and threw it across the floor so she could watch Nick chase after it and bring it back to us. She thought that was SO FUNNY!
We checked her room every day after she transferred to the hospital, and then stopped in both days after she returned. Both times we were unable to "connect" with her. . . Monday when we visited we saw the empty room and when we mentioned her to one of her friends who was a resident there, we learned that she had passed away.
I am glad that we got to know her--and am also glad that we got to meet her daughter Lori and one of her grandsons just before she left for her hospital visit.
Know that she was a blessing to us and is sadly missed by me and "Nick." I am sure that God has welcomed her into His kingdom with open arms!
