COLTON—Funeral services for 85 year old Joseph W. Thomas, a resident of 112 Corcoran Road, Colton, will be held for family on Tuesday March 13, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the afternoon at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton. Joe passed away late Wednesday evening at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital with his loving family at his side. Joe is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara, Colton; three sons, Jerry and Penny Thomas, Kevin and Nancy Thomas and Jason and Anastasia Thomas, all of Colton; two daughters, Jill and Kenneth Chase, Colton and Brenda Thomas, Stockbridge, GA; his ten beloved grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Glen and Marion Thomas, South Colton; Orin "Bee" and Bonnie Thomas, Colton; Bing Thomas, Louisville; his two sisters, Anna and Donald Grant, DeKalb and Kay and Robert O'Brian, Lowville, a sister-in-law Bernice Thomas, Colton, as well as several nieces and nephews. Joe was pre-deceased by his parents, an infant son, Wayne David Thomas and his brothers Francis Thomas and Allen Thomas.
Born in Pierrepont, NY on May 13, 1932 to the late Roy and Kathryn "Kitty" Dorothy Thomas, Joe graduated from High School and married Barbara M. Seymour. He worked for the USPS as a rural carrier for 25 plus years, retiring in 1997. Joe's true passion however, came from working on his family farm. He loved to be outdoors, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, cutting wood and working in his sugarbush producing Maple Syrup. He enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends and spending time at hunting camp, Brunner Hill, where he was a charter member. Joe was an active and Honorary member of the Pierrepont Fire Department for a total of 61 years, and the St. Lawrence County Maple Producers Association.
