SOUTH COLTON – A Mass of Christian Burial for 91 year old Joseph L. Charette, a resident of the Highland Nursing Home in Massena and formerly of Cold Brook Drive in South Colton, will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Colton with Rev. Stephen Rocker presiding. Burial will be held in the springtime at the St. Patrick's Cemetery in Colton with military honors. Family and friends may call at St. Patrick's Church in Colton on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Mr. Charette passed away late Thursday evening, February 8, 2018.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Agnes, also a resident of the Highland Nursing Home, Massena; a son, Larry(MaryAnn) of Auburn, three daughters, Lynne Charette(Janet Swarthout) of Walworth, NY, Debra Rose(Doug) of Weedsport NY, and Roberta Harvey(late Robert) of Auburn, NY; two step-sons, Danny (Cheryl) Durant and Patrick Durant; nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Joe was pre-deceased by a son, Joseph Jr. (Valerie), a step-son, Chris (Lynn) Durant and his four sisters, Lucille Bedore, Rosalee Proux, Yvonne LaFave and Florence Tarbox.
Born in Piercefield, NY on July 2, 1926 to the late Leo and Floss Hair Charette, he was formerly married Genevieve Debiaw for 27 years, living in Auburn, NY while raising their five children. Joe later married Agnes Robideau on April 10, 1976. Joe worked as a mechanic and carpenter privately as well as working for Parkridge Hospital in Rochester as a maintenance supervisor. Joe was a communicant of St. Paul's Church in South Colton and enjoyed living on Higley Flow. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was always a proud veteran. In his spare time, Joe enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and feeding the chipmunks.
