Obituary of Peter M. Smith

NORFOLK—Funeral Services for 85 year old Peter M. Smith Jr., a resident of 3407 St. Highway 310, Norfolk, will be held Friday, August 18, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Norfolk with Pastor Carl Chamberlin presiding. Mr. Smith passed away Monday, July 24, 2017 at the home of his grandson, Chris Batxer Jr. Peter is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joan, Norfolk; his daughter, Deborah Baxter, Norfolk; his three grandchildren, Chris Baxter Jr., Shannon LaBrake and Trace Baxter; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; his brother, Alfred and Margaret Smith, Norfolk; his nieces Donna Zaboroski, Bonnie Wadman and Sharon Walker and nephews Peter Cole, Roger Cole and Toby Queore. Peter was pre-deceased by a grandson Devin Waite and his many siblings. Born in Potsdam, NY on August 16, 1931 to the late Peter M. and Alice Wolf Smith Sr., Peter graduated from high school and attended Oswego State College. He married Joan M. Brown on January 2, 1960. Peter was always busy, from managing his garbage run in St. Lawrence County, working at NNCS as a bus driver to operating his chainsaw business in Norfolk along with his logging operation, Peter always had something to do to keep him busy. He was a carpenter by trade and also enjoyed doing masonry work. He was a member of the Norfolk American Legion, as he served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean Conflict.
