HANNAWA FALLS—Memorial Services for 89 year old Robert "Bob" H. Thomas, a resident of the United Helpers Maplewood Campus in Canton and formerly of Hannawa Falls, will be held in the spring at the Zion Episcopal Church in Colton. Burial will be held in the Pleasant Mound Cemetery. Mr. Thomas passed away early Saturday morning at the Maplewood Campus. Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret, Hannawa Falls; two sons, Robert Jr, Pulaski; Richard and Leila Thomas, Bainbridge Island, Washington; his four beloved grandchildren; Erik Thomas, Ryan Thomas, Maddie Thomas and Riley Thomas. Bob was pre-deceased by his parents and a sister, Dorothy Long.
Born in Ogdensburg, NY on August 14, 1927 to the late Harold and Florence (Corcoran) Thomas, Bob graduated from Colton High School and entered the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and served on the Aircraft Carrier Yorktown. Upon his return from the service, Bob attended Clarkson College and later went to work at Niagara Mohawk in 1950. He was an Office Manager in Gouverneur, Pulaski and Malone and retired as a Regional Marketing Manager in Utica. He was very active in civic organizations, serving as President of the Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club. He served on the Niagara Mohawk Speakers Bureau for ten years as well. Bob was a charter member of the Potsdam Elks Club and a sixty-eight year member of the Colton High Falls Masonic Lodge. Bob enjoyed reading and was an avid golfer, in which he served as a Past Vice President of the Gouverneur County Club and Past President of the Malone Country Club. He has had four hole-in-ones throughout his years golfing, but his biggest fete was beating his boys, in which he usually did.
