Obituary of Gladys I. O'Leary

MADRID—Funeral Services for 87 year old Gladys I. O'Leary, a resident of the St. Regis Nursing Home and formerly of Madrid will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 4 p.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood with Rev. Lee Sweeney presiding. Burial will be held in the spring in the Bixby Cemetery, Norfolk. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral. Mrs. O'Leary passed away early Thursday morning at the St. Regis Nursing Home. Gladys is survived by her husband that she adored of 67 years, Bernard, Madrid; three sons, William and Carolyn, Richmond, VA; Ronald, Malone; David, Rochester; her four daughters, Sally Gering, Hague, VA; Sandra and Guy Tyler, Norwood; Cynthia Marie O'Leary, Richmond, VA; Sherry LeClair and Matt Rankin, Malone; her beloved 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Gladys was pre-deceased by a son, Joseph in 2007 and her five brothers, Charles, Kenneth, Milton, Earl and Lloyd Klock and her two sisters, Eva LaRock and Betty Nero. Born in Rossie, NY on April 16, 1929 to the late William J. Klock and Minnie May Peck, Gladys married Bernard O'Leary on August 6, 1949. She worked as a Home Health Aide for a while as well as raising her family. Gladys was very active in her earlier years, being an avid bowler and coaching her children in sports. She enjoyed reading and solving crossword puzzles in her spare time and undoubtedly loved spending time with her husband and her family, especially the grandchildren. Gladys was a very loving and caring person with a big heart. She was a member of the Norfolk American Legion as well. Memories and condolences may be shared online at www.buckfuneralhome.com .
