NORFOLK-- A Mass of Christian Burial for 97 year old Lorraine B. Richards, a resident of the United Helpers Maplewood Campus in Canton and formerly of Furnace Street, Norfolk, will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Visitation in Norfolk with Rev. Msgr. John Murphy presiding. A luncheon will follow the funeral at the Fr. Andrew Amyot Parish Center. Burial will be held in the parish cemetery in the spring. There will be no calling hours. Mrs. Richards passed away on Friday evening at the Maplewood Campus.
Lorraine is survived by three sons, John P. Richards, Robert and Nancy Richards and Jeffery Richards, all of Norfolk; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean LaPlante, California; Joan and George Puchta, West Islip, Long Island; two daughter-in-law's, Susan Richards and Deborah Richards as well as several nieces and nephews. Lorraine was pre-deceased by her husband; a son Lee; an infant daughter Sherry; her two brothers John and James Butler; a sister Helene "Bobbi" Bregg and a daughter-in-law, Geraldine Richards.
Born in Norfolk, NY on February 27, 1919 to the late Leon and Grace Castle Butler, Lorraine graduated as Valedictorian of her Norfolk High School Graduating Class. She married the late Vernon Richards on September 2, 1938. She worked for various business's as a secretary until she earned a job with Clarkson University as a secretary. After her retirement form Clarkson, Lorraine worked as the Parish Secretary for the Church of the Visitation in Norfolk for several years. She was a communicant of the Church of the Visitation and was very active with Church events. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and enjoyed reading, knitting and visiting with friends. She was a member of the Business of Professional Woman's Club in Massena as well as a member of the Norfolk Library Board. Memorial Donations in her memory can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley or to the Church of the Visitation.
