NORWOOD A memorial service for 82 year old Neil W. Emburey, of 4 Ashley Street, Norwood, will be held Saturday May 9th, 2009 at 11 am at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Norwood. A reception will be held after the burial at the Norwood American Legion. Mr. Emburey passed away on November 22, 2008 at his daughters home in Ellicott City, MD.
He is survived by his wife Mary, a resident of the Ogdensburg United Helpers Nursing Home and formerly of Norwood, a son Stephen of Laurel, MD, a daughter Sally Emburey and her husband David McGill of Ellicott City, MD and three granddaughters, Stephanie Emburey, Rebecca Emburey, and Stacy Emburey and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Cecil and Clay Emburey and a sister Evelyn LaRue.
Born in North Stockholm on October 14, 1926 to James and Emily Chaplin Emburey, he married Mary Grandy. He worked as a route salesman for the Stroehman Bread Co. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater as a radar man on the USS Antietam. He was a member of the Norwood American Legion and an avid Yankee Fan. He enjoyed boxing, golf, hockey and playing cards. He liked attending reunions with his old shipmates and telling stories of his Naval experiences.
