NORWOOD-- Funeral services for 74 year old Robert L. Matthews, 4 Leonard Street, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Andrews Church in Norwood with Rev. Msgr. John Murphy presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in the spring. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mr. Matthews passed away Wednesday evening at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
Robert is survived by his sisters Elizabeth Liz and Robert Agen, Massena; Barbara Planty, Madrid and several nieces and nephews. Bob was pre-deceased by his parents and a sister, Diane Matthews.
Born on November 3, 1940 in Potsdam to the late Henry and Gilberta LaBelle Matthews, Bob graduated from high school and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service in 1979 as a Master Sergeant. He was Chief Administrator and Supervisor for Sensitive Documentation. Bob was a devoted Christian, attending daily mass every day until his illness. He also enjoyed taking pictures, reading, solving crossword puzzles, watching game shows and he had a passion for bowling.
