NORFOLKFuneral services for 95 year old Philena C. Shyne, a resident of the St. Regis Nursing Home, Massena and formerly of 41 Furnace Street, Norfolk, will be held Thursday at 12 noon at the Church of the Visitation in Norfolk with Rev. Msgr. John Murphy presiding. Burial will be held in the Visitation Cemetery, Norfolk. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norfolk on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mrs. Shyne passed away Sunday afternoon at the St. Regis Nursing Home.
Philena is survived by two sons, James and Helen Shyne, Long Island; Walter and Jean Shyne, Norfolk; a daughter, Mary and Edward Mitchell, Clarkson, GA; thirteen grandchildren and several great-grand and great-great grandchildren and her daughter-in-law, Pamela Shyne, Knapps Station. Philena was pre-deceased by her husband in 2001, a son Darrel Shyne on December 26, 2013, four brothers, Abraham, Joseph, Donald and Alfred and three sisters, Cecile, Malena and Rita.
Born in East Hampton, Massachusetts on February 6, 1919 to the late Charles and Delphine Poirer Brean, Philena married Francis E. Shyne on July 19, 1937. She was a homemaker and worked at the family store in Norfolk. Philena was a communicant of the Church of the Visitation and a member of their Altar and Rosary Society and was a past member of the Norfolk American Legion Auxiliary.
