COLTONFuneral Services for 96 year old John E. Peacock, a resident of the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena and formerly of 251 Number Nine Road, Colton, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton with Rev. Lee Sweeney presiding. Burial will be held in the Pleasant Mound Cemetery, Colton. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Mr. Peacock passed away Monday evening.
John is survived by three brothers, Lloyd and Richard, both of Schenectady, NY and Harold and Shirley Peacock, Madrid; a sister, Bessie Watkins, Florida , several nieces and nephews and his longtime caregivers, Shirley and Gary Gollinger, Colton. John was pre-deceased by a brother James, four sisters, Inez Hockey, Louise Lanning, Agnes Murray, Mildred Currier and his companion of 50 years, Hilda Hamilton.
Born in Norwood on September 20, 1916 to the late Jay and Marion Burlingame Peacock, he attended Norwood Schools. He worked for Local #322, Massena, NY as a laborer. John worked on several projects including the Plattsburgh Missile Base, the Dams in South Colton and the Long Sault Dam in Massena. He retired in 1977. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, where he received a Purple Heart. He enjoyed gardening, working on the homestead farm, raising cattle, hunting, the outdoors and he loved his dogs.
