SOUTH COLTONFuneral services for 94 year old Edward D. Guiney Sr., 3857 State Route 56, South Colton, will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Pauls Church in South Colton, with Rev. Msgr. Robert Aucoin presiding. Burial will be held in St. Patricks Cemetery, Colton. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. Mr. Guiney passed away early Friday morning at his home.
Ed is survived by his son, Edward Guiney Jr., South Colton; three step-sons; James and Grace Regan, Norwood; John and Kathy Regan, Syracuse; Jeffrey Regan, Arizona; his two step-daughters, Donna Barkley, Alabama and Noreen and Donald Tuper, Potsdam and several step grandchildren. Ed was pre-deceased by his wife, Retha, his brothers, John, James, Richard, Robert and Francis and his sisters, Ellen, Blanche and Margarite.
Born in South Colton on July 13, 1918 to the late James and Mary Johnson Guiney, Edward married Retha Farmer. He was employed with the Operating Engineers Union, Local 545, Syracuse, NY. Edward was a life member of the Potsdam VFW and Potsdam American Legion. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving with the 88th Division, Field Artillery in Italy. He was awarded the European North African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four Battle Stars. He was also awarded the Bronze Star and the American Campaign Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the NY State Conspicuous Service Cross.
