Colton - Margaret I. Kingsley, 81, of Cottage Road and formerly of Hopkinton, passed away early Sunday morning, May 1, 2011, at Canton-Potsdam Hospital after a brief, but courageous, battle with cancer.
The funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 6, at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton, NY, with the Rev. Lee Sweeney officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Cemetery, Nicholville.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 P.M. on Thursday, May 5, at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton. Contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley or the American Cancer Society.
Peg, as she was fondly known by friends and family, was born on September 20, 1929, in Albion, Rhode Island, the daughter of the late Roy and Louise (Malzacher) Raymond. She married Harry M. Kingsley on January 24, 1948, and they owned and operated a dairy farm in Hopkinton before retiring in 1986 to Higley Flow. Mr. Kingsley predeceased her on August 26, 1993.
In addition to her husband and parents, Peg was predeceased by a son, Terry, a half-sister, Mrs. Myron (Luella) Daby, and brothers, John (Jack) and Donald (Donnie) Raymond.
Peg was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, loving sister, and caring friend and neighbor. She was a past member of the Eastern Star and enjoyed gardening, walking, reading and decorating. She especially enjoyed her time with her family and solving crossword puzzles. Surviving her are sons, Lee and wife, Marjorie Kingsley, Crestwood, KY, and Dale and wife, Patricia Kingsley, Hopkinton, NY, daughter, Lori and husband, Douglas Witherell, Parishville, NY, grandchildren, Jason, Kyle, and Jarred Kingsley, Mrs. Kattie Kingsley-Liska, Brent Kingsley, Matthew Moses, and Jonathan Witherell, great grandchildren, Maria and Isabella Kingsley, sisters Mrs. Anthony (Dorothy) DArpino, and Mrs. Murland (Marilyn) Chesbrough, as well as several nieces and nephews.
