SOUTH COLTON Funeral services for 75 year old Richard J. Matthie Sr, 456 East Hill Road, South Colton will be held Saturday at 2 pm at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton with Rev. Edwin Wright presiding. Spring Burial will be held in Pleasant Mound Cemetery, Colton. Friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton on Saturday from 10 am until the time of the funeral. Mr. Matthie passed away early Tuesday morning at his home.
Richard is survived by his wife Joan, his three sons, Richard Jr, South Colton, Wesley and Maria, Potsdam, Paul and Aileen, South Korea, his three daughters, Ellie Muirhead, Colton, Hazel Matthie, South Colton and Annabelle and Fred Wright, Lynchburg, VA, 21 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He is also survived by his twin brother Robert Matthie, South Colton, his sisters Daisy Wagstaff, Potsdam, Rose and Wayne Akley, Hannawa Falls, Cherry and James Hennessy, Liverpool, a half brother Wayne Bump, Newton Falls and nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by brothers Clarence, Martin and Wesley Matthie, his half brother Carl Matthie and a half sister Esther Kane and his grandchildren Kevin Matthie and William Muirhead III.
Born in South Colton on November 7, 1934 to the late Frank and Hazel Martin Matthie, he married Joan White on June 27, 1964. He worked at the Plains Lumber Company in South Colton until it closed and then he worked as a self-employed logger with his brother Clarence for 20 years.
