NORWOOD -Richard "Rudy" Hicks, age 54 of 30 Depot Street, Norwood; died Saturday morning from pancreatic cancer under the loving care of his family and Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.Friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood Wednesday October 7th. from 6-8 PM.Graveside services will be held Thursday October 15th. at 1PM at Calvary Cemetery in Norwood.
Surviving are his mother Sherry LoBello of Norwood; two sisters;Yvonne Allen and companion Charles Garlough of Norfolk, and Joanne and husband Michael LaShomb of Norfolk; one brother; Joseph Hicks and fiance Dayna Cole of Norwood and several nieces and nephews.
Born in Buffalo, New York on July 28, 1955, son of Orvil James and Sherry A. LoBello Hicks; he never married.He graduated from Norwood-Norfolk Central School in 1975. He was employed in housekeeping at Canton-Potsdam Hospital for three years retiring in 2008.Dick will be remembered for his sense of humor and his love of nature and animals and his green 86 Chevy pickup. He enjoyed military history, playing cards, 4-wheeling, hunting, fishing and time spent at Sterling Pond with family and friends.
Richard was an Army Veteran who was stationed in Fort Polk, LA and in Korea at the DMZ as an Armored Personnel Carrier Mechanic.Donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.Friends are welcomed to gather at the Norwood American Legion following visiting hours at the funeral home Wednesday evening.Online condolences can be shared with the family at www.buckfuneralhome.com
